that mainstream media has met its make. u.s. bombers flying near the east coast of north korea while feeling yang that claims president trump is on a suicide mission. president mark wronger rushes through his overhaul of the country's labor code despite a furious backlash on the streets of paris. just hours to go until germany's federal election r g looks at the main candidates and their final push to win over voters. are broadcasting live from our studios in moscow this is art international i'm sean thomas certainly glad to have you with us now u.s.
7:01 pm
bombers have flown close to north korea in what the pentagon described as a demonstration of resolve this follows weeks of saber rattling between leaders donald trump and kim jong un with each of trading personal insults and threatening all out war samir khan has the latest from washington. crisis has escalated today even more after the u.s. flexed its military might according to the pentagon the u.s. sent b. one b. bombers from guam as well as f. fifteen fighter jets from okinawa japan on and on a mission in international airspace off the eastern coast of north korea. this is the farthest north of the milit of the demilitarized zone that any u.s. fighter or bomber has flown in this this century the pentagon says that this that this mission sends a clear message to the d.p. r. k. that the u.s. has a many military options to defeat any threat this all comes amid
7:02 pm
a heated dialogue between the two leaders both issuing threats and insults sometimes sounding identical a few days ago trump said that the north korean leader it was on a suicide mission to which the north korean foreign minister responded saying that trot it was run on a suicide mission let's take a look at it we will have no choice but to totally destroy north korea. rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime know one of them trump himself is on a suicide mission if innocent american lives at home because of a suicidal attack trump will be held entirely responsible yes it looks like the north korean leader was particularly affected by trump's comments because the foreign minister responded saying that trump's actions were an irreversible mistake you can't have med men out there shooting rockets all over the place.
7:03 pm
rocket man should have been handled a long time ago. he tried to insult the supreme dignity of my country by referring to this with rocket but by doing so he commits an irreversible mistake of making a visit by our rockets to the entire u.s. mainland only whenever it's the russian foreign minister urged the u.s. and north korea to end its saber rattling and engage in political dialogue accusing both leaders of behaving like a kindergarten children china and russia will continue to insist on a move reasonable approach in contrast to the emotional one we see now where they behave like children fighting each other in kindergarten and nobody can stop them with the tensions escalating in between both countries the situation remains quite unstable at the moment so it's unclear where this is all headed geo political analyst patrick henningsen believes the threats coming from washington are actually encouraging north korea to develop its nuclear deterrent. if you listen to the
7:04 pm
words of donald trump at the u.n. general assembly when you want to nuclear deterrent as well as to praise you threatening to destroy a country there's twenty five million people that live there and it's in any audix state missed by the united states president for this simple reason if you knew to north korea you would also create a huge nuclear contamination that would kill so many people in the south it would make huge areas unnavigable and parts of china it's not going to happen everyone knows the united states is not going to nuke north korea this doesn't make any sense on so many levels but this is sort of business as usual for washington and unfortunately history will not sort of be on the side of the u.s. in this because at some point it has to end the better seventy years they've carved out a strip between north and south korea which is a basically giant dollars think for u.s. dollars for the military industrial complex there's no reason for the united states
7:05 pm
to be there and frankly there's no reason for the north and north and south korea to be pointing guns at each other the only reason the or is because the united states. under france now our president has signed five executive orders to push through his controversial labor reforms this is despite days of chaotic protests on the streets of the capital. with the word. with with with. with across his former rival in the presidential race on claims that over one hundred thousand people gathered to protest against the president's policies policy has in paris far too. well i would estimate that there were easily around a hundred and fifty thousand people where i'm standing in the bastille square and this follows
7:06 pm
a promise that was earlier made by the leader of the french leave milan sean that he would be passing in people from as many as three hundred fifty cities today saturday and since the early hours of this morning we have seen people the writing here more than a budget to france is becoming far less democratic now days even more decisions are taken by officials not by the french people the people who was. at the right. that against the place and yet there were. people want to show the don't agree told us what's happening with the decisions of the government decisions that are almost always in favor of the ruling classes who have money and people who work there not so for thoughts about which is why we need to show that me here to stand up for our rights talking to protest that they are angry basically angry with the statement that mcconnell made not so long ago calling them slackers for sure they didn't get that minister at i will be
7:07 pm
absolutely determined to that i will not yield in any way not to sarkozy of not to cynics not to extremists music from now days that is sexy it's quite imaginative find our way out. and we're making our way down its way. around. the french police radar. repeating them. really. as they march with the protesters here at speaking today what they are most concerned about is that. the trade unions how what they want to see
7:08 pm
how it companies to be able to see more easily find people so really the mood on the ground is one that people are not going anywhere until mcconnell himself make some changes. we'll bring you the latest on germany's and federal election after a short break watching our two international stay with.
7:09 pm
what the politicians to do something to. put themselves on the line if they get accepted over checked. so when you want to be present. for something i want to. get you going to be this is what about for three of the people. i'm interested always in the why. should. i. welcome back to watching our two international live from moscow now germany is gearing up for its federal election polls will be opening in just a few hours and the election team is following all of the developments from berlin .
7:10 pm
yeah a big thing if the polls are right angle of merkel heading for four more years but . welcome to our special election coverage live from the heart of berlin with me kevin and me nikki erin hello now the results of sunday's vote will determine whether chancellor angela merkel will remain in power for a fourth term it's going to get old picture this election sixty one of the half million people able to vote those polling stations open it's poker morning so let's go now in case you missed any of the build up to this we've squeezed together the highlights of the election season for just fifty seconds. and. i was. here as a. funniest. man a downside of a few people. fucked up the whole question hunch thing that's what i do these are.
7:11 pm
what i'm going to find that. i disappear to skip to. the final campaign rallies have taken place in major cities across the country with candidates doing that most to breathe new life into their political image. quite literally the chancellor angela merkel showing her first aid skills at a rally in northern germany to the sounds of resilience yes if you're old enough food to feed she said the law if you talk to say that temple is holy. suited for performing c.p.r. if you have one that there was fear quite cheerfully of the event in contrast to the key to the rather embarrassing a little bit of embarrassment that went on in
7:12 pm
a big rally in munich early. on the only thing. i. knew. the chinese you know glued to the funded through cold storage guns the shining this has started to be. not quite the same atmosphere there is anglo american was booed down the way still washee was trying to win over any floating vote is around two hundred protesters had called the chancellor and a number of well resting. so i'm going to be elected chancellor for a fourth time about the end of the term there will be a new generation literally of germans that have seen no other leader in office market herself notes many of her rivals indeed have come and gone through her twelve years now at the top of the show to do bensky reports next how merkel has become somewhat of a political survivor not just
7:13 pm
a political survivor she is known as being the mother of not just germany but for some the mother of europe and some describe her as being a political dinosaur now under merkel hopes the results of that election tomorrow will see her win that fourth term in office and you will see her back at these offices that she's called home for the last twelve years let's take a look now at some of the political leaders from europe and across the world angle of merkel has seen off during her time in office.
7:14 pm
during that duration three terms so fall and go merkel has seen highs and lows and let's start now by the fact that germany has for a long time during her first term and even into her second term in office seen as the powerhouse. over europe in terms of its finances that was hit slightly during the euro crisis that we've seen over the last ten years or so with germany having to bail out many other countries and forcing them to help many other countries including of greece we've also seen the money crisis with around a million refugees coming here to germany and then of course having many incidents of terror.
7:15 pm
and she saw a big dip in the polls in two thousand and sixteen with some people thinking that she may not even contest this election for full time but two thousand and sixteen was a long time ago and she has we're bound in the polls since that she is also a person who is kani enough to know that when her own policies are not reflecting well in terms of the public opinion and she's been known to take ideas from other parties some of described as being a bit of a flip flop when it comes to policies and using those who have been persecuted who are refugees displaced by war should be allowed in europe than is currently if i could i would turn back time many many years to prepare better together with the entire government and those responsible for the refugees so. there are many ups and downs in angler merkel's twelve turns twelve years in office his three terms it is very likely if the polls are correct the party will come out on top tomorrow but it
7:16 pm
will still then have to form a ruling coalition if she is to gain another few years in this building our correspondent daniel hoare can says being busy gauging the political mood finding out what the public really think about this election and where the main fight will be playing out there's no major surprises being expected no shock results being anticipated this election is more about the changing landscape of domestic politics in germany and more of a litmus test for her popularity voters confidence in her policies you put out in central but in all day speaking to people this is the word on the street we have kind of a stalemate you know that nothing's really moving politicians i would translate she's pretty good on one side on the other side says since twelve years now in office and so i think this is definitely time for a change to have fresh power even if she is
7:17 pm
a powerful woman i think it will stay more or less the way it is there will be no groundbreaking difference because merkel will carry on and that's good. yeah i just read this morning that it's just as predictable as hillary clinton becoming the next u.s. president so you never know and i hope people including myself about trying to vote should teach you to avoid. going together with the. because that would be the kind of new liberal coalition that many including myself want to avoid having or maybe we are happy that many things going to change because i think a lot of things are pretty ok so pick change always comes as a big big risk as well. oh i think what has to be changed i for one am not a fan of marco no one that i know is a fan of merkel and i hope that we will cause a big change i think many commentators would agree there's no deep divisions or heated passions for this election but really the voters can be divided into several
7:18 pm
distinct groups the michael finds who think the c.d.u. is the way forward they're happy with the status quo those who feel it is need for change and for some fresh faces but within the confines of mainstream political discourse perhaps voting for the the social democrats or the freedom democratic party they have two people within the centrist framework those voting for fringe parties and those voting to stop those fringe parties they may be the d. they've made some surprise last minute games going up a couple of percentage points they could be in for the first seats in the bundestag the first the right wing party far right party considered by many to do so in german history can they be the next german opposition party that is could be the biggest change coming out of this election will find out soon enough but you know we're now joined in our studio by mr bruno crown the former chairman of the bell invited to the pirate party thank you for coming in i know your child a long way to be here with us tonight we really do appreciate it now everyone's
7:19 pm
saying that the outcome of this election is a foregone conclusion do you think that so are we going to see some upsets in surprise as well i think one soap. rise for many people will be that i think i'm not happy about it but i think that they will be most likely on position number three and it will change a lot like the balance of power and future coalitions so i think the shelf will be going quite deep. i know they can make o.c.d. a party is the way out there in friend already and speculation part is that michael said despite the social democrats accountable second do you think jim infosys really have promised to choose from in this election well basically of course a chance to make back to the bilby stone the chancellor and she made sure she was sick or face the. second phase in a lot to get this position again basically she was the whole party pushing into the left direction she just couldn't make everybody so there was no space for the opponents to somehow compete with her so it was sure she wanted to keep the power
7:20 pm
and i think at the moment at the momentary situation it might be also what the people want because it gives a certain kind of stability and specially when seeing how right wing parties with no ideas with ideas from the past about closing society a coming up having actually no solutions being just protests it's at the moment i think this what most of the people want stability but one criticism of merkel is the she's leading the country to what is the future plan she's come and come and go on with what the public should change her mind on some things what about your policy what are you going to bring to the party i know you're worried about surveillance state to the voters care about are you going to make a show tomorrow and i was going to do this is this is actually true for us it's quite hard to come up with our subjects because people are afraid at the moment you can see hold over the world that nationalistic parties who are more into closing society instead of opening a much more successful empowered party is
7:21 pm
a party which has an idea like an opening the world like one world this is something what's at the moment people are not. interested unfortunately you're going to do well really quickly you're. going to be all right we're not friends with. those former chairman of the branch of the power with us tonight can be tricky navigating through the nearest parties running in this election the possible alliances they could be formed but don't worry we're here to going to help you understand with an ounce of their workers put together this little guy unless you'll season didn't german politics understanding the ins and outs of the election isn't exactly a piece of cake for starters each person will be asked to cost not one but. the first for a district representative the other for their preferred political party then comes the magic of proportional representation with each party's share of the vote
7:22 pm
translated two seats one in the bundestag the complex system prevents a single party from winning an outright majority so unlike in the us or france where the very usually produces one clear winner even once the german results are in this still the mystery of who teams up with who should build a ruling coalition polls put angular merkel's party the christian democratic union well out in front and martin short says social democrats are likely to come behind in second but there's real intrigue in who finishes and could potentially be kingmaker if michael wins she still needs extra coalition partners on top of her sister party the christian social union already excluded and. see alternative for germany and left wing. this could pave the way for the renewal
7:23 pm
of the so-called grand coalition between merkel's party. and martin short says social democrats whether schultz will agree to become the cd use junior partner is another question entirely so far he seemed unwilling to play second fiddle. to the mind because as governor. if an alliance with shills isn't an option this is the man merkel is likely to call next christian. the leader of germany's free democrats the pro-business liberal party that teamed up with merkel and her allies the for by the way isn't just a pretty face he could confront merkel on some key issues. if
7:24 pm
peace prevails refugees must return such human rights for choosing your place in the world i'm not being harsh this is. speaking. even with lynne this handshake in the bag merkel might still need extra help to get her over the winning line and that's why the green party could come into the fold with their top candidate dubbed green. similarities to. this cd you f.t.p. and the greens would make an exotic mix known as the gym a coalition which is never made it to national government before so in case you're wondering why there is no clear winner come monday morning all the details of the final coalition contract could take weeks to finalize the system is complicated but it is considered the fairest of them all for voters it can be frustrating
7:25 pm
though i caved in the early political parties end up breaking campaign promises and in german. there's always the convenient excuse that it was all the coalition partners fault. thank you for being with us from across much of the election of course throughout the day it's the law school calls for most of all if we got nineteen hours rolling coverage tomorrow from eight in the morning when those polls open we'll be there in the morning i'll be here for the rest the afternoon you're into the night here so stay with us through it all to russell. that does it for us here in moscow as well i'll be back in about thirty four and a half minutes with more look at your news stay with us this hour to international .
7:26 pm
well you know that they were kind of adopted because we were called pirates for so long. i mean they're in the small boats next to the harpoon ships and it's. not. the little self to be told fish already ninety percent of the dot and it won't be common or. contra fifteen's coupes seventy tons to do it several times a day with a big fleet oh you get an idea why. we have to
7:27 pm
understand we could not stay to just. be with this oh the deal going to go out. i'm doing this because i want the future world to the future generations to have and enjoy the ocean we have. one hundred years ago the first computers were actually. people who were hired to do you know additions or multiplications that's gone that is now done entirely by computers on fortunately i think translation is not there but it is one of the easier things to do by computers that will be gone in the next in the next twenty years most translators will probably be out of a job i mean on i'm sorry for them but this will just happen this is inevitable.
7:28 pm
